Answer: The BigTeams Student Central Portal is a digital platform that allows you to access, complete, and submit the PIAA CIPPE Physical form. Submission of this document is required for a student-athlete’s participation on any FCA sponsored team.
Question: Do middle school students get equal playing time?
Answer: Not typically. At Faith Christian Academy, we believe that athletics serve to enhance the overall experience for students while attending the institution. It is important that we give the proper perspective of athletics to the lives of the students we coach, as well as in our interactions with parents/guardians, officials and members of opposing institutions. Questions regarding playing time should first come from the student-athlete to their head coach before the parent contacts the head coach.
Question: What are the academic policies for student-athletes to participate?
Answer: In accordance to the Faith Christian Academy Middle School and High School Handbook, a student-athlete must comply with the following measures:
A student-athlete must remain in good academic standing in order to compete with their team. Grades will be monitored throughout the course of the season. If a student-athlete has two F’s, their Head Coach and parents/legal guardians will be notified and the student-athlete will have to sit out for one week until they improve their grade to passing.
The PIAA requires that student-athletes must be passing at least four full-credit subjects, or the equivalent. Eligibility is cumulative from the beginning of a grading period, must be reported on a weekly basis and must be filed in the Principal’s Office.
Question: What should my student wear to practice?
Answer: Please ensure that all practice apparel of all student-athletes is modest and appropriate for the given activity. Shorts, sweats, and shirts should not be too tight, too loose, or too short. Modesty is mandatory.
Question: What are the attendance policies for student-athletes to participate?
Answer: In accordance to the Faith Christian Academy Middle School and High School Handbook, a student-athlete must comply with the following measures:
A student-athlete cannot be tardy more than once to school following game day competitions.
If a student-athlete fails to meet this standard, they will not be able to start in their next competition and will have to sit out for a portion of the game as specified by the Athletic Director and Administration.
Three or more tardies for any student will result in detention.
In order to be eligible to participate, a student-athlete must be in school by 10:00 am on the day of a competition or they will be considered absent and will not be able to compete.
A student cannot be absent from school and be able to participate in practice or competition on the same day.
Question: What is the fee for participation in middle school sports?
Answer: The sports fee for each season will be $350. The fee will be added to your Smart Tuition Account and subsidize uniforms, coach pay, equipment, maintenance, transportation, and many other elements that play into the student-athlete experience at FCA. FCA sees the value in athletics and will continue to fund the vast majority of athletic costs. If you have any questions about the fee, please feel free to contact Mary Beth Clymer, mbclymer@my-fca.com, or Betty Wheeler, bwheeler@my-fca.com.
Question: Are there tryouts for middle school sports?
Answer: All teams are subject to tryouts, especially those with high initial registration numbers. This is not to deter students from participating in middle school sports, but to maintain the quality of instruction and safety of practices and games. Tryouts will be held during the first week of practice to permit time for students/parents to change their 8th hour elective if needed.
Question: Does FCA provide transportation to away games?
Answer: Yes! Details regarding transportation can be found on the FCA website.
Question: Where can my student put their bags/equipment when they come to school each day?
Answer: Student-athletes can place their belongings in the locker room at the start of each day. The locker room will be locked from 1st period-7th period. Students should not be putting their school belongings in the locker room as they will be locked and not accessible to students during the day.
Question: What are the expectations of parents during the season?
Answer: Parents and student-athletes are encouraged to display good sportsmanship at all practices, home and away contests. Players and parents are representatives of Faith Christian Academy and should seek to display the values of FCA at all times. Yelling/Inappropriate comments directed at an official, coach, player and/or spectator are not permitted. If a problem occurs at a home or away event, please inform the Athletic Director via email (athletics@my-fca.com)
